Additional activities
In addition to a guided tour, we recommend several activities to get the full Berlin experience. We will continue to add to this list. There are several websites with good advises besides: visit berlin
- Get a great view on Berlin from the TV-Tower in the eastern center of Berlin. Not far away is Hackescher Markt and Hackesche Höfe – nice spots with restaurants and shops.
- Several museums very close by: Museum Island
As written on visitberlin.de: “A unique ensemble of buildings on Spreeinsel (Spree Island) in the heart of Berlin. It encompasses five large Berlin museums built under the Prussian rulers as well as a reception and exhibition building, the James Simon Gallery.” - Walk along Berlin’s famous river, the Spree, and see the government district.
- In the center of the city is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, an imposing place of remembrance and warning.
- The magnificent dome of the Cathedral Church (Berliner Dom) is one of Berlin’s major attractions.
- Nearby is Unter den Linden, a street with several historic buildings, including the Humboldt Forum (inside the reconstructed Berlin Palace) and Berlin State Opera and the Humboldt University of Berlin. This street ends at Pariser Platz with the Brandenburg Gate, from where you can continue to Tiergarten, Berlin’s largest park, and the Victory Column.
- Just around the corner from Unter den Linden is Gendarmenmarkt, home to the Konzerthaus (concert hall) and the German and French cathedrals.
- You want to spend some money? Kurfürstendamm is the place to be, including the famous and expensive KaDeWe.
- Close to that you will find the Breitscheidtplatz and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
- If you are interested in the more recent history of Berlin and the former Wall, the Berlin Wall Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie and the East Side Gallery may be for you.
- In Potsdam, a smaller city near the southwestern border of Berlin, the Sanssouci Palace, surrounded by several parks and other historic buildings, is definitely worth a visit if you have enough time.
There are so many more sights, hidden treasures all over Berlin, cultural places, clubs, theaters – impossible to list them all.
